Good morning Friends of the Scenery.

I am putting together a history of one of our favorite play spaces.

We have been around and seen a lot. If you have something that
you would like to share please post it here or email it to me or
whatever you wish.

The Scenery started in San Jose, Near 101 and 880. Im sure you all remember it. There is even
a picture of the layout following the construction of the Mezanine.

We remember the lovely couple that organized the place. And the many people that came by
to help make the place work.

The Scenery opened in Aug of 2001 and stayed there until July of 2002. Such a lovely place.

    Hugs, Carol

When the Scenery opened in San Jose we organized the Thursday noon 'Brown Baggers Brunch Munch'. This munch was held at the Scenery from 11 til 1 on the 3rd Thursday of the month.

It was amazing the number of kink folk that would take their working lunch break and come to the Scenery to share with their friends.

Eventually when the Thursday evening parties were canceled the 'Brown Baggers Brunch Munch' was moved to the 3rd Friday.

When The Scenery was moved to Hayward the Munch was canceled.

When the Scenery in San Jose there were parties held on Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings from 8 PM until 3 AM. The party was closed only after all of the drunks got off the road, so the members of our community would not be running into any of the wrong kinds of drivers.

After a few months the Thursday evening party was canceled so more attention could be paid to the weekend parties.

July 4th weekend of 2002 the Scenery moved to Hayward to a much larger place. Thanks to all of the people who helped the place was moved in the weekend and was reopened within a week. It seemed to be a very large and friendly place and being half way between San Francisco and San Jose it drew a lot of people that would not have normally come to the south bay.

It was during this time that Castlebar closed and The Scenery became the only place in town.
Many Odyssey and Janus events as well as Fandango and you name it.

    Classes were many and frequent.

It was during this time that the man that ran the Scenery developed a serious Back problem which
forced him to divest himself of the Scenery and move away from the bay area (we miss you very much).

In May of 2003 a friend and I took over the Scenery from them. Had lots of fun and held many parties.

The end of this same year the Landlord decided he did not wish us to have these parties there any more. He gave us til the end of the year to move out. So we moved into storage and started looking for a new place. This was December of 2003.

From 2004 until early 2006 we lived in storage and generally provided our equipment to others who were having parties. You might have noticed our equipment at Odyssey events (Folsom Fring and the Odyssey Spring Party). We also offered some equipment to the Odyssey Members Only Parties in the south bay.

We also had traveling parties. Parties in Oakland, Vallajo, San Jose, Santa Cruz were some of the places we held the events. Proved that Scenery membership was still strong.

Some of our equipment and materials were donated to others for their use. Other things were loaned
with the hopes we would come back and see it used in our own place again.

We held parties at The King of Clubs in Mountain View in 2004 and 2005. This was the start in a new direction. Our first ever party where Alcohol was served. We helped with the first and second Black and Blue Ball and did a few other parties.

Lots of fun in a very public venue.

In 2003 I moved the MPPA munch from Redwood city to Hayward to the Southland Mall Food Court.
This was during the time when we ran the Scenery in Hayward.

We renamed it the HACK munch (Hayward Acadamy of Caring Kinksters). This munch was held on the 1st and 3rd (and occationally the 5th) Tuesday of the month. We would gather with our friends in the Southland Food Fair from 7 til 9 PM. Following the munch we would go over to t he Scenery and open it up for a few hours of mid week play. It became very popular amoung the local kink folk that could not make it to the weenend events.

The HACK munch continued to operate (without the Scenery parties) until early in 2006 when
it was moved to Milpitas and renamed the MPPA munch.

In early 2006 when Edges opened in Santa Clara, the HACK munch was moved to Milpitas. We renamed the munch MPPA (MilPitas Players Association).

We restarted a favorite function of the original HACK munch. This time we would munch at the Great Mall Food Court and afterwards ajourn to the Edges for an evening of play. So many good memories of this.

Lately we moved again to The Pacific Palms Bar and Grill. This is where Wasteland holds a monthly party (on the 3rd Tuesday) and so we do not have far to go to a great play space after the munch.

We are still holding our munch (Pacific Palms) and play (Edges) on the 1st Tueday. But now we have a definitely kink aware venue for our munch.

In early 2006 a new place was announced in Santa Clara (Edges). They were in need of help and equipment. The Scenery had lots of stuff to offer, Equipment and Help and Membership.

We have been offering them help ever since.

Also we are now having regular monthly parties in association with Edges on the third Saturday of the month.

If you have a Scenery membership please come by and check out the place. You may even run into some of our equipment.
